How to Design a Tumblelog Theme for WordPress | Digging into WordPress

Tumblelogs are a great way to streamline mixed-media blogging for different types of content. Commonly used tumblelog topics include “Links”, “Photos”, “Quotes”, “Dialogue”, and “Video”. A good tumblelog presents each these different topics with its own unique format while retaining an overall sense of cohesion throughout the entire design. A good example of this involves the clever way in which titles for “Link-category” posts link to the showcase URL rather than to the post itself. Other post types may be styled with different colors, meta information, and anything else that seems appropriate. Bottom line is that a well-designed tumblelog makes it easy and fun to showcase and organize a wide variety of different content types all in one place. Although I prefer to tumble via my Tumblr account, I have always wanted to integrate the process into WordPress by designing a tumblelog-style theme. So in this brisk tutorial, that’s exactly what we’re going to do. The goals of our Tumble Theme are as follows: Create categories for each content type: Links, Photos, Quotes, Dialogue, and Video Create unique category, single, and index views for each content type Make post title links for the Link category point to the showcase URL instead of the post itself Also provide a link to the post itself (i.e., single view) for posts in the Link category

On taking over the world, and other things…

It’s been a month of milestones for Tumblr, and we thought it would be a good time to stop and say: Thank you to everyone for making this possible.

We can still remember watching your new posts come in one-by-one the day we launched. Now we’re waiting for five new servers to arrive to help us handle the 330 million (that’s 0.3 billion!!) hits and 20 million new posts we’re projecting for August.

More than anything, you continue to blow us away with the amazing things you do with Tumblr.

As our team gets bigger (we’re up to 9 people!), we promise we’re as committed as ever to making Tumblr the greatest place for everyone in the world to share the stuff they love and create.

A mi-chemin entre Wordpress et Twitter, Tumblr est un outil de “speed blogging” qui permet de poster rapidement des photos, citations, textes,…, depuis sa machine ou depuis sont mobile et ce de nombreuses façons. Ce service est promis à un très bel avenir et je le trouve plus intéressant, plus complet qu’un Twitter. Bloguer sous Wordpress, ça prend du temps et du temps, on n’en a pas beaucoup, nous allons vers des systèmes de blogging où l’on va s’affranchir au max des interfaces et autres admin, bloguer depuis le contenu directement, mieux interagir avec lui et gagner du temps.

I've switched from Tumblr to FriendFeed.

“I've switched from Tumblr to FriendFeed. The bookmarklet seems to be good enough by now, so why not. I've also told Feedburner to poll a cleaned-up version of my FF feed (remove some unwanted services and sanitize the display of the items) and redirected my Tumblr page to here.”

I have the feeling that we get bored about a service more quickly than before...
